Getting Hooked!!!

One of my many collections of Victoriana are button hooks.

These tools have been around for centuries but this post focuses on those used in the latter part of the 19th century to the early 20th century.

Used for buttoning boots, gloves, and clothing, they come in a variety of sizes and materials.
Handles are often found in silver, metal, celluloid, porcelain, or wood and can be stamped with an advertisement or have initials engraved.
Some have duel hooks for both boots and gloves.

They are a nice collectable in that they do not take up much space, are readily available, and are fairly inexpensive.

Happy Collecting!
What is your favorite collection?

  1. Hi Kim,
Love your button hook collection. They are fun to collect. I only have 3 so I really don't think that is a collection. The only things that I have alot of that I would call a collection are Victorian tradecards and postcards, seashells and Victorian blown glass Easter eggs. And I'm not for sure which one is my favorite.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Gina

  2. These are wonderful! There are a few you have that I've never seen. For instance the one with the closed loop! Of course loving old silver, I love those, especially with the detailing.

What do I collect? Yikes. Best not even go there because there is simply not enough room. Shameful I know but I truly love the old loved things of the past. How about antique buttons, suitcases, books and hand loomed fabrics. Of course that is only a small, very tiny amount of what I collect. Yikes better not say anymore or Romeo won't let me on the computer anymore ;)

Meowllo to Kramer; Hugs to you!
